Little noticed aspect of last few days: The ERG's amendments have ensured that the customs bill goes to the Lords, where it will presumably have the shit kicked out of it politics.co.uk/blogs/2018/07/…
Right, I got this wrong.
The Speaker did, as I predicted, decide that it was not a money bill. The series of events I mentioned leading up to that were all accurate.
However - and this is not in his control - it was a supply bill.
The Speaker's decision means the Lords can now reject the bill as a whole and send it back. They may be tempted to do this due to tight votes, weird dynamics, pairing controversy.
But it's unlikely - they've never done it before in modern parliamentary history.
However - and this is the bit I got wrong - they cannot amend a supply bill.
So no fiddling. It's to be taken as one or not at all. Buggered that one up a bit. Soz.
