I’ve been almost exclusively focused on the Texas House races, with some emphasis in the Senate, nothing on the statewide races. With the SemiJul reports out, let’s rectify that. Let’s open with @DanPatrick and @CollierForTexas in the Lt Governor race #txlege
On the SemiJul report, there are some striking differences in donor counts, both unique donor and total donations.
Dan Patrick
- 378 Unique donors
- 418 Total donations
Collier
- 804 Unique donors
- 1798 Total donations
#txlege
Dan Patrick has a lot fewer donors then Mike Collier, but then you look at how much people are giving.
Of Dan Patrick’s 378 unique donors, 124 (33%) of them gave $10,000 or more. #txlege
Those who give the most are the ones who most likely expect that candidate to listen to their input a little more intently. For Dan Patrick, the 124 big money donors who gave $10,000 or more make up 93% of his total contributions this period. #txlege
Now, let’s look at Mike Collier the same way. Collier had 804 unique donors this reporting period. Three of those donors gave $10,000 or more. That’s less than 1%. #txlege
When you look at Mike Collier’s total contribution pie chart, the big-money donors, those who give $10,000 or more, make up 19% of his chart. #txlege
This last chart is to me the one that really illustrates the difference in how campaigns get funded. Some candidates drive from grassroots and others are tied to those massive donors. Dan Patrick’s average donation is $10,772. Mike Collier’s average donation is $132. #txlege
