I think Goop is popular not because women seriously believe that quartz'ed water confers energy or that they need a jade egg (hopefully), but because she--and broadly, wellness--taps into a universal desire to feel cared for & fussed over--to be the object of someone's concern.
She’s def on the extreme end of a spectrum of unnecessary (and potentially harmful) products which I am not endorsing. But the vitriol directed at Goop seems a bit extreme. Consumer culture is all about buying things we don’t really need, but can make us feel better
...Take for instance the entire vitamin industry. Or in the 90s, low-fat everything. In the past decade, yoga leggings. (Yoga has been done for thousands of years without special clothes!)
