Look, This narrative has always been pissing me off. It’s not just a Twitter thing. It’s a shared opinion across most Nigerians from Southern Geo-political Zones

Issa Thread
Most Southerners think of US as being ignorant, backward and Uncivilized

Civil Servants feel the colleagues Of Northern origin are not competent and if they were from else where in the country they would probably only be fit for Motor Park Louts
Academicians below the Niger and Benue think the Northern Drs and Profs aren’t qualified and they got those awards just because of their ethnicity.

Media Practitioners believe their Northern counterparts are the ones practicing unethical and unprofessional journalism
Southern Political elites, class and even voters believe Northern Politicians bear the sole responsibility for dragging Nigeria backwards.

Conveniently Ignoring contribution of all political leaders across the nation for the ROT.
In London, People constantly tell me its rare to see people I share the same ethnic identity with in the UK.

One lady even told me “In my 30 years in UK, you’re the first Northerner or Hausa I’m seeing here, Una people don dey progress”
I Just giggled because that’s what most of Y’all think is Progress. We don’t leave our average paying jobs at Home where we can help our kinsmen just to come to UK to be Macdonald’s retail staff, Tesco cleaners or Uber drivers.
We DON’T leave Arewa just share a single room with 5-8 30 years+ fully grown men in Old Kent Road or Woolwich just so we post on gram we in London.
In London, we stay in the Pent houses of the Metropole, Luxurious apartments in Paddington and Mansions at Notting Hill Gate.
We don’t come as BEGGARS, we come as BALLERS

Your literary geniuses criticize us for not having classical literature in English, Our Classical Literature is in HAUSA, “Magana Jari Ce, Ruwan Bagaja, Ilya dan Mai Karfi” and countless others.
A lot of Y’all were so delighted when the BBC opened Yoruba, Igbo and Pidgin English services.

BBC Hausa service has been in existence since the mid 20th century. The Brits understood the Hausa were people that were proud and protective of their cultural identity.
Of all the societies the Brits colonized globally, the Hausa Society was one of the most sophisticated, developed and Civilized
We had an working political and governance structure.

Well established Economy, Trade and business (Agriculture, Textiles, craftsmanship etc)

Well organized Police and Military Services.

Institutionalized Education system and the list is endless.
I studied for my Undergrad in Abeokuta, in my first few weeks there, people never believed I was Hausa because “No matter how Aboki go school in no go sabi English”. And they’re even more shocked when they learn My secondary school education was in Minna, Niger state.
I was sure as hell the best student in my department and most departments that had an at least average Northern ethnic groups representation in the courses, had Northerners leading, much to the Shock of the Southern Academic instructors and students.
We were constantly discriminated against because of our Identity

I am not denying we in the North have our problems, of course we do. Show me any society that doesn’t have regional problems in Africa and the world at large.

Many people might feel what I said today is divisive.
But How can we have our fellow Nigerians constantly and repeatedly blame us for dragging our Nation behind.

Always telling us, we are intolerant, divisive and discriminatory.
Can’t you see the Hypocrisy. It still baffles me how they say we are ignorant, illiterate and Backward.
And still say we are the Privileged and Upper class.
Well Damn Right we are Privileged

We are NORTHERNERS, YAN AREWA!!!

Suck it UP!! And SHUT UP!!!
