I recant my 2013 view that there's no humanities crisis in the US. The last five years of degree data have been brutal, and all humanists need to worry about how to deal with the attendant changes to our disciplines.

I'm somewhat surprised to see that there's no apparent drop in humanities enrollments at HBCUs.
That's about the institutions, not just demographics: although it is notable that black men are maybe the only demographic group to see only a minor decline in humanities degree share.
@PeterMandler1 provides an up-to-date, comparable chart of the UK. (His full writeup is here aeon.co/essays/the-hum…) There is no sign of a comparable drop in majors in Britain.
I corrected a significant mistake in the post. One small corner of the humanities has *not* seen significant declines: cultural, gender, and ethnic studies. I didn't notice because I had been lumping it w/ area studies for analysis, though the chart below was in the post.
