I want to take a moment to clarify something about this tweet; the article was about medication abortion, not Plan B. I see this a lot, particularly because there have been efforts to intentionally conflate the two. Medication abortion & emergency contraception are not the same.
Plan B is a brand name for emergency contraception, which is taken up to 72 hours after sex to prevent pregnancy. It will not work if a pregnancy has already been established. It stops or delays ovulation. It does not cause an abortion. More here:

Most emergency contraception is available over-the-counter for those who need it. You can purchase emergency contraception online. In some stores, you still have to ask a pharmacist for it, which is not really over-the-counter, but that's another discussion for another day.
Unlike emergency contraception, medication abortion does end an established pregnancy. It is highly (and unnecessarily) regulated, and is not available over-the-counter in the US. It can be illegal in some states to self-administer medication abortion, even though it's safe.
Medication abortion, which has been around since the 1980s, is extremely safe. rewire.news/article/2018/0…
Recently, we published a study where women in Peru took medication abortion with minimal clinical supervision and there were only 2 who had infection complications. It's safe. washingtonpost.com/news/to-your-h…
We've also published studies showing that administering medication abortion via telemedicine is just as safe as in clinic. But a handful of states have restricted the use of telemedicine for medication abortion, decreasing access for rural communities.

But in other countries, medication abortion is available over-the-counter, via telemedicine, and in clinic. Medication abortion is safe, yet unnecessarily restricted here in the US because of politics. theoutline.com/post/4660/let-…
