Wilbur Ross is attempting to add a citizenship question to the #2020Census for one reason only: To intimidate and frighten recent immigrants so they don’t fill out their census form.

More than 250,000 Americans are demanding the question be removed. bit.ly/2M1qFxg
The census citizenship question has long-term implications. Systematic undercounting of immigrants means the areas they live will be underrepresented politically.

If we don't #SaveTheCensus, resources will be diverted away from the areas where immigrants reside.
Ross’ pretext for the citizenship question—that he wants to better enforce the Voting Rights Act—would be laughable if it weren’t so cruel. It has nothing to do with enforcing the Voting Rights Act. It’s about radically shifting political power to the GOP: motherjones.com/politics/2018/…

The Saudi embassy has spent at least $270,000 at Trump’s Washington hotel since the November 2016 election, and the royal family has spent big money at his Chicago and New York hotels since he became president.

Medicare for All would not “end Medicare as we know it and take away benefits that seniors have paid for all their lives.” It's called Medicare for All because it would take the program and expand it to everyone. Seniors’ benefits would not be taken away – they would be improved.
Medicare for All won't cost $32.6 trillion over 10 years, b/c it will introduce savings not accounted for in the study Trump cites. But even if it did, that would be LESS than projections for our current system, which also leaves tens of millions of Americans without coverage.

1/11 For a long time we didn't have the money to apply for #citizenship. Now we can manage, just barely, as long as we don't use a lawyer, so we started the process in earnest last June. I had friends fill out all the reference pages (two different friends for each of us).

ACLU’s @dale_e_ho just played this Yahoo interview in court and is grilling John Abowd about Ross’s statement that the citizenship question was “in the air” early in the Trump admin.

“Not in the air I was breathing,” Abowd quipped.
It’s unclear whether Wilbur Ross’s decision to sit for an interview with Yahoo will affect his ongoing Supreme Court fight to avoid deposition.

DOJ’s brief is due tomorrow.
It’s pretty brazen that - after fighting for months against a deposition about his decision to add a citizenship question to the census - Wilbur Ross granted a press interview on the subject at the precise moment the Supreme Court will decide the matter.

2. So far, there are 6 lawsuits against the #2020census citizenship question, which Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross (census overseer) approved adding to questionnaire. More than two dozen states & cities, plus other groups & individuals, are trying to get it removed.
3. Lawsuits include:

- The NY Immigration Coalition et al v Commerce Dept et al

The citizenship question has not been included in a decennial Census since 1950.

Courts have long mandated that US House districts be drawn based on total population, assuring all populations would be fairly represented whether they voted or not.
