Separation of motion & computation - a self recursive paradox !
If nature is only in the material mechanisms that can be measured, then where is the necessary computation done to make such a mechanism work ?
If nature is only in the material mechanisms that can be measured, then where is the necessary computation done to make such a mechanism work ?
If natural laws & the computational mechanism that computes these laws are not two separate mechanisms - then everything in this universe, can be described as a self-computing machine.
Any self-computing mechanism would have to be a perpetual motion machine — comprised of two parts that compute each other. Analogous to this sketch inspired from MC Escher’s works — here is a pair of hands erasing each other.
A chicken or egg problem — self recursive. For one hand to erase the other, the first must be fully functional — a partially erased hand cannot function as a hand. But, the first hand could only be termed fully functional if the other stops erasing out the first.
In other words, one hand can work only if the other allows it to do its job. But the other-hand won’t exist for long unless the first hand stops erasing. Both hands are deadlocked. This deadlock means that the time the hands take to erase each other would be infinite.
This picture could never exist in a real world because it entails the ability to erase a hand so that it can stop the other hand from erasing the first. If this were possible, then the other hand would never be.
That which calculates natural laws for a single finite universe would be infinite in space or time.
Between a rock and a hard place! Separating the material & computation mechanisms requires infinite space. Combining the material & computation mechanism would require infinite time.
In mysical traditions — nature is a mother who spawns children within herself. The mother is like the big picture of reality & the child is like a detailed picture of the same reality which the mother spawns within herself.
The trigger for this creation and dissolution is the father who represents time.
Time periodically creates & annihilates - this destruction is a euphemism for erasing the features in the sketch of the two hands erasing each other.
Features get destroyed in nature when the opposites within nature are erased by each other - manifest phenomena merging back into an unmanifest reality.
