I do not approve of or defend what Strzok did, which was monumentally stupid for a very smart guy, and which caused huge problems for the FBI in two separate high profile investigations on which the integrity of the Bureau's work should have been beyond question.
That said, I don't believe that individual line agents at federal law enforcement agencies should be the subject of Twitter campaigns by the President of the United States.
I do believe that federal employees have the right to their private views.
I don't believe that Strzok's incredibly foolish decision to share those private views with another FBI employee on Bureau hardware amounts to a firing offense. I still don't fully understand what rule he is supposed to have violated.
I believe that Strzok has served this country in a number of different capacities over a long period of time and that this fact deserved more consideration than it appears to have received in the final adjudication of his case.
I believe the recommendation of OPR for that appears to have been overturned thus warranted more deference than it received.
And I don't believe that the costs of running afoul of the President should be career ruin and personal bankruptcy.
For all these reasons, I believe Strzok deserves a defense.
