The Phrase "an eye for an eye" wasn't invented to not be used. Even at this day an age, there are people who very much believe and use this phrase to do exactly what it says... An eye, for an eye.

A Thread
#Threadist
For some of you who don't know what this saying means, well we can do this both ways, that is, yo take u to the bible scripture that talks about the origin of thus saying, or I could briefly explain it to you in my own words. Okay, no . I'm choosing to go the bible route.
According to Bible scripture, the meaning of "Eye for an Eye" is that a person who has been injured by another person must return the offending action to the originator. In simple words,it means Revenge. And y'all know what they say about revenge, its a bitch so I've heard 😂😂...
Jesus is clearly not a fan of bitches coz he disputed the Eye for an eye principle by saying "But whosoever shall smite you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also".This is a hard thing to do I know😂to not fight back & offer the other cheek, "yikes" y'all probably saying
Oh no! I know not everyone believes in the bible, and that's okay. I was merely telling y'all the origin of the phrase y'all overuse both directly & indirectly...so long as you are a revengeful person, just know you are using the Eye for an eye principle & I'm against it
which brings me to today's story. Children were left motherless, all because of a mother who was all about impressing her neighbors. This Happened year 2008, right in my village. I swear my village is one the most cursed villages in the country!
maybe I'm the cursed one, because such stories follow me as flies to shit! I'm tired of it to be quiet honest. But how can I resist? its part of my birth right i know😑. Anyway, the Zwane family were not the richest in the village..I'm trying to be humble about it.
I was taught that its rude to call people poor. However being unrich in the rural areas isn't a strange thing. Half of my village were still unrich in that year. Its much better now. People are educated and homes renovated, some events migrated to towns and big cuties.
Their yard was huge, well this is an open secret ! People in the rural areas have large plots of land. This becomes a disadvantages when the yard is so big a school can be built there, only to find 3 grass rondavels there. Its sad.But you can only see this if you've been to the city
The Zwane family had such a life. Ridiculously Large yard with 2 rondavels to accomodate 6 people. Life can be a pain in the arse if you one of those people who constantly feel the need to compare your life to the lives of others,To be in denial of the one thing you know is true
MaShandu was the Empress to the Zwane home. A mother of 5. Unemployed, but a woman of the cloth. I didn't want to say this but she was also the chairperson to the Village Daily News..if you know what I mean😉 She'd move from house to house verbally distributing current Headlines
She was neighbors with the Sbiya Family who are the "we doing it all" family. They're the ones with stokvel businesses & lift clubs. They were also loansharks. So y'all can imagine, having a neighbor with dozens of big houses on his plot & their kids are in city boarding schools
I remember this one time they had this business of selling chickens to both villagers & neighboring towns, their businesses were all successful..I'd tell you why but thats a story for another day. So they would ask MaShandu's kids to slaughter & unfearther the chickens for 'em
MaShandu had no choice but to allow her kids to be the Sbiya family's employees .I mean she was " friends" with her neighbors anyway. Sad truth is they were never paid as how most employees are paid, they were given the inner parts of the chicken to take home.
So they'd slaughter about 12 chickens everyday after school & take the intestines, gall bladder & livers home. That's how they got paid. One afternoon while MaShandu was distributing the Village Daily News to her rich neighbor "friend" ,a sales person approaches their way..
I'll call him a sales person cause that's the most formal way to call them. The sales person is an African brother from Somalia so I've heard. He's selling blankets, mats, bins, bowls, pillows, curtains..listen he, himself, was a walking spaza shop. Y'all know this mahn 😂
I honestly don't know how they do it, they will bring them entire shop at the comfort of your own home😂. He greeted while In his overload- red-Tazz. Its a skororo, you can tell by the sound its making & the amount of smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe.
The two board members who are brainstorming are distracted by the car that's pulling over a few meters away from theur humble homes. Cars ain't a regular thing to seeing these dusty streets. Dust settles & a tall, dark man with curly hair comes out of the red tired beast.
" sanibona my friends" he says as he comes out of his car. I don't know why our Somalian brothers always add "my friend " to every sentence they say😂, the two ladies greet back. They heard the "sanibona" (hello) part. He tells them he's selling stuff ,he shows them everything..
His IsiZulu isn't good but he's trying his best to convince them its very cheap & they can pay in monthly installments. The ladies are first impressed by this strange African man who has curly hair & speaking isiZulu in a funny way..y'all know us Zulus😂 "yehheni! Maye babo!"
MaMbatha's neighbor has already taken two blankets & a pillow. She's convincing Mambatha to also take stuff. At first she didn't want to but ended up taking everything that was taken by her neighbor. The debt they had was R1600 in total. That's a lot to a person who's unemployed
She planned on usimg her kid's social grant to pay her debt bit-by-bit. Life will always ruin whatever plans you have, a plan B should always be put in place in everything that you do! If not, you better make sure whatever decision you're making is right in all aspets!
Unfortunately for Mbatha she only had plan A. Month end came & the sales petson who had introduced himself as Abdulla came to collect what was Ceasar's. He first went into Mambatha's neighbor whom paid all her debt that very same day. Mambatha had saved R400 to give to him.
This meant they were going to run out of food earlier than usual this month. Her friend had convinced her to take the stuff promising her that if she ever goes hungry she'll be there to help her. Mambatha paid her R400 & her remaining balance was R1200. Its still a lot.
She tells him she'll pay again the following month. The next week there's a know on the door. The kids are at school. Mambatha is about to finish dressing up after her daily bath before she goes to work to verbally publish today's Village Headlines. "Who is it?" She asks
"Yim' vula makhi! "..its the neighbor. She puts on her wrinkled T-shirt on her bra-less chess & rushes to the door. She's almost shocked to see her neighbor with such a handsome man. He must be Abdulla's kind, judging from his curly hair, she tells herself. "Come outside" -neighbor
She quickly goes back inside to take her red & navy silky headwrap/doek. A Makoti(wife) myst never walk out of a house without it, its tradition. She ties it up as she's walking out the door & walking to neighbor who's standing & chatting with this Strange man.
The neighbor introduces the man, Abshir whom is also a sales person. Only difference is that his things are much cheaper than Abdulla's.The neighbor asks Mambatha to come with her to look at some of the stuff she has already bought from Abshir .she agrees with no intent of buying
They walk to the neighbor's house and oh dear Lord the rich Neighbor has gone mad! She bought a lots of pots, some green silky curtains, dish wipes, matching blue&black bedding set, trays & a parrafin heater. She's becoming a shopaholic now😂
She convinces Mambatha to also take stuff, Abshir is "understanding" when you don't have money to pay in some months. She's even telling her " you can alternate between months , one month you'll pay Abdullah & the other , Abshir" . Mambatha gives in & also takes stuff
She takes some pots, the paraffin heater "to warm her kids" Her neighbor justified. She also took curtains for her kitchen. Her debt was R900. She didn't know she was digging her own grave by listening to her rich conniving neighbor. Month end came & it was time to pay up
Abdullah came but she told him her child fell sick so she couldn't pay him that month.Abshir came & she paid him.The following month she lied to Abshir so she could pay Abdullah. As this was happening she was getting into more debts with other sales people..thanks to her neighbor
It was no longer Abdullah & Abshir now. There was also Hasam, Omar, Sada & Ramzi now. Her 3 rondavels were now fully furnished thanks to the understanding Somalian Walking Shops where she was taking everything on credit. She now has couches, a 4 plate stove, beds & more
The year was coming to an End & the men had been lied to over & over again. Some had even lost their patience. They could see right through her because she came up with a new lie every single month! She tried borrowing money from her loanshark neighbor friend but was unsuccessful
The neighbor asked her how she was going to pay it back because she's not working. She was so devastated to hear such an answer from her friend who was her credit shopping partner. Its true, when times are tough, friends are few! Stress was chowing her hard! She even lost weight!
She'd sometimes hide from the men who'd come to collect. One day, one of the men left a message for Mambatha, telling her neighbor to tell her that if she doesn't pay by the end of the next month she'll curse the day she met him.The neighbor happily passed the message to her.
Her stomach turned as soon as she heard this threat. She didn't know how she'd pay them all & still have enough to but food for her family. The children's grant isn't a lot. That same night she had a terrible dream about one of the men she was owing. In the dream he was furious!
He forcefully shoved white powder down her throat telling her he's not taking it out until she pays up his money. She woke up wet in sweat. She can't even switch on the lights, they never bought electricity this month. They use paraffin a stove to cook & candles for light.
She was regretting dragging poverty right to her doorstep. She had no one to cry to.She had the same dream for the next 3 days except she was shoved a different substance everynight. The last time she had this dream she was woken up by her eldest daughter saying she had been crying
This is when she decided to tell her daughter everything that had happened & how her life was in some kinda danger. The following day she had no appetite, her clothes were now bigger than her. People in the village thought she had HIV. Poor woman was dying from anxiety & stress
As days went by she started losing height now.Yes! You heard it! She was getting shorter by day.She tried seeking help from village healers but they all couldn't find what curse was doing this. One healer even said the muti that was used on her was foreign,so he couldn't help her
As soon as people heard, they made it a priority to stay away from her. They were scared they'd alos be shadowed by whatever darkness that was slowly turning Mambatha into a Monster. Their family were isolated from the entire society. A "cursed family" they called 'em
Some even said it serves her right for all those times she was spreading rumors about other people while she was claiming to be a woman of faith. Her eldest daughter dropped out of school to take care of her mother who was now always locked up in her room. Scared of being seen
Month end came but the men didn't come to collect their money. Mambatha didn't know whether this was good or bad.She was hoping to see the man who had threatened her. He's the one responsible for what was happening to her.She was close to being a dwarf, her skin was as dark as coal
Her own kids were scared of her now. I remember the day my grandma told us that people almost ran away when they saw Mambatha coming into the taxi, going to town to collect her Children's social grant. They say she looked nothing like the Mambatha they knew. She was embarrassed..
The week following the day that the men didn't come to collect,a scream was heard from Mambatha home. All the kids came out running from the rondavel they all sleep in.They ran to the rich neighbors house who took them in.The kids explained to they saw monsters in their house
They were short blue human-like creatures with glowing yellow yellow eyes & and they were sitting right next to their mother's bed. The eldest daughter was the one doing the talking, the others were crying. I think the fact that it in the dark made it scarier for them
The rich neighbors allowwed the kids to spend the night at her home. Tye eldest daughter refused to sleep, she was worried about the fact that her mother was still in that house with the two monsters. What if they take her? Or kill her? She was aware that her mom had been cursed
She also knew who did it & why? The sun soon came up & the neighbor called villagers to go to Mambatha's house with her to see the monsters seen by the kids.Healers are aslo here. Most people are standing far away from the unpainted rondavel with grass that's now black from age..
Some of my family members were also there. I was forbidden from going. They knocked on the rondavel. No one is answering. The bravest guy opens the door & slowing takes a step in. In a blink of an eye he's quickly pulled inside his & the door shuts. A marathon I tell you!
Everyone ran away including the healers. My cousins came back running as though they've seen the devil himself. After an hour the elders in the community were pleading with the men of the community to go rescue the brave but unfortunate guy who was dragged into the lions pit.
He was screaming calling Shembe as everybody ran for their lives.A few men went back. They agait knocked & pushed the door open using a long stick. No one wants to be dragged in by whatever devil holding Mambatha & the guy hostage. They push the door open. There's nothing inside!
No furniture,no nothing! The healers slowly get in.They find the brave guy unconscious behind the door, coverd in blue 3-fingered handprints.MaMbatha is nowhere to be found. They try to wake up the guy but he's as good as dead. The healers dont even knw where to begin unsolving this
In that moment the a red Tazz aproaches. The neighbor recognizes this Tazz. Its Abdullah. He stops the car & comes in Mambatha's yard that is now surrounded by the whole village. They started coming back when they heard there were no monsters found.
The atmosphere has changed, the eldest daughter is weeping for her mother! The other kids also crying but looking at their sister through the neighbor's fence. Abdullah asks what's happening & they try explaining to him.He doesn't understand what they're saying. I dont blame him.
The neighbor takes him inside the rondavel to show him the blue handprints. His eyes pop open as soon as he sees the prints. His hands on his head. He's speaking a language they're not understanding. He's shocked. He goes outside & calls someone. People are now angry at him...
They think he's the one who did this. Y'all know how us Zulus are when were together. Our stubborn and sometimes unreasoning nature takes over & we turn ruthless like our beloved Shaka Zulu the great! They want to beat Abdullah up now. Its chaos. Some are protecting poor Abdullah
Soon a white Tazz comes and parks where Abdullah parked his car. 4 men step out of the car.Wait! They must be brothers! They look exactly like Abdullah except Abdullah looks older than them.He must be the elder brother. Abdullah starts shouting at them as they walk towards him..
They are all looking down. Someone among them is guilty. The 5 of them are all standing next to the rondavel that's now a crimes scene. Abdullah is shouting at them, he keeps pointing at the rondavel. Soon the 4 brothers go inside the rondavel. Abdullah is remains outside
They soon come out. 3 of them shocked! The other one..well,not so much. Its clear he did it.The healers are talking to them. They wajt to know where Mambatha is. The one brother tells squats down as the other brother surround him. Soon he gets up again & point at a field, far away
Men are instructed to run to thay field. Abdullah & his brothers want to go now but the community won't allow it! The men who went to fetch Mambatha from the field are just standing right where the man pointed. Everyone is confused. Did they find nothing ? Is she there but dead?
One guy comes back. He's trying to run but his body ain't fit for it. That's African beer belly isn't bugging, plus the sun is very hot! He finally gets to the full-packed yard & reports that they don't know if that thing they saw is Mambatha or not.Eldest daughter loses it again
Its decided that Abdullah & his brothers should go to the site too. People start moving towards the site, along with Abdullah's brothers. They get to the site its " yehheni! Mayebabo! Umhlola lona! "(people are shocked) again. They've never seen such a thing before.
Mambatha is as short at a 3 year old, dark as coal, her skin thick as leather but with cracks showing an inner blue lining. She has a shell on her back, almost similar to that of a tortoise but this one is blue with shades of white. She's fully naked. Her dead yellow eyes opened.
They can only assume its her from the navy & red doek shes has on her head.Abdullah keeps saying "sorry!" ,He's shaking in fear, the other brothers are all mute.He knows the community could kill all 5 of them on the sport.People are shouting "Reverse the curse! Bloody warlocks !"
"Mina faka kuphela, kwazi khipha" one of the brothers says. Its broken Zulu but you can understand he's saying he can only cast on the curse, he can't remove it. The community starts starts beating them but soon join in a Comrades marathon. It is said Mambatha came back to life..
They say she let out a loud roar & no one told the other to run. Abdullah's brothers were never seen again. They even left their cars right where they had left them. The cars were burnt. Mambatha was nowhere to be found, atleast what was left of her. He kids left motherless
They never even got the closure of burying their mom.Its sad I know. The eldest daughter dropped out of school to take care of her siblings. They are at a better space now.Two of them are teachers. They've built a beautiful home for themselves. Those were the strongest kids ever!
I guess the lesson here is to avoid debts,to stay in your own lane! To not be pressured by friends into buying things you can't afford & don't need,at the end of the day you'll be the one to find yourself in shitty situations.Stick to what you have! Live for you! Not your friends
The world is dark & full of terrors. Pray and just live your damn life for yourself!

The End.
Thank you for reading. And wow😂😂 all those typos I made! I don't know how y'all do it! But anyway Thank y'all💖..oh, this is a true story BTW
Some of y'all are asking how "Eye for an eye" comes into play here? I thought y'all would figure it out. I guess not.sigh. Abdullah's brother was paying revenge to Mambatha for not paying up! It could be that he found out Mambatha would pay his brothers but not him.
