There is one thing you're ought to learn from folklores, especially the most local ones because they are all true. Believe me, I know. Dare to turn a blind eye on them & they will unfold right in front of you.

Note: Not To Be Read By Mine Workers!

Inkosazane yezintaba. Goddess of the mountains they call her. In Zulu tradition, she is said to be in the deepest of caves & mountains. It is also believed that she is the one who unveils the earth so that water may spring up. You believe in her? Well... Sfiso met her.
He received a call telling him he had received a job as a miner at a coal mining company in KZN.I won't mention the name of the mine for obvious reasons. As expected, he was beyond ecstatic! Unemployment for 4 years broke his family apart.Having two wives is no child's play!
On the day of the call he assembled his family & sacrificed a goat to thank his ancestors & umvelinqangi(God) for giving him a job at last! It was truly a miracle, considering he applied for this job 2 years back & didn't make the cut. They must've kept his C.V
My uncle who's hardly sober came back on that evening & delivered the news of Sfiso receiving a job. They were drinking buddies. Sfiso wasn't always a drunkard, He only started drinking a year after he got retrenched from his then job. It was a hard time for his family...
Having 6 kids & 2 wives to feed with no income coming in is a nightmare for a Zulu man who's pride is in being a provider & protector. If it wasn't for his cattle, they wouldn't have survived. No I'm lying, they would've. The wives would've made a plan, women always do...
Mothers have this gift of making things be. At some point my mom was also unemployed but we never slept without anything in our stomachs! We went to good schools & hardly noticed the strain she was under until we got older. Women are indeed imbokodo(hard rocks) !
Now, there was always a rumor about the mine Sfiso was going to. Which is why a traditional healer was called to give him protection tools which included enchanted wool across his waist and wrists. This was to protect him against all evil, especially from what they feared the most
I love the how some mines have hostels for its workers to live in. Well I dont know if they pay rent, but it does make things easier for people like Sfiso. New at a job, no friends and still struggling to find hid way around the site.
He quickly made friends with his colleagues, many of whom came from our surrounding villages. His first day at work was pretty easy, the only thing that unsettled him, were the new boots pinching the life out his ankles & toes.If you used to wear Toughees shoes you'll know his pain😂
Months went by & now he was used to the place. Life was good. He was able to provid dor his family again. He felt likeman again..only if he knew this would be shortlived. His managers were fond of him, he was a hardworker who got along with everyone on site! Engineers included!
His colleagues always joked about him having strong muti to make people love him. He'd laugh it over & think nothing of it. A year later he was promoted to junior foreman miner. This meant his salary would increase & his new responsibilities were to supervise other miners..
Not everyone was happy for him. Especially those who were there before him, they complained how come he got promoted a year after he got the job while they've been working there for over 10 years & received no promotions. He was isolated from the miner's community because of this.
Some argued it cant be that he's just lucky. He's probably using muti to make the managers like him, hence the promotion. The wool he had around his wrists & waist was concluded to be his way of charming everyone. "Uyathakatha lona! " (he's a sorcerer!) They started calling him..
To stop these rumors he decided to unknot the wool despite the traditional healer's instructions not to unknot it without consulting her first. Its funny how we think peer pressure only influences teenagers & not adults,I believe adults are the most supcetible to it than teens!
This was probably the baddest decision he's ever made in his life. He went to work the next morning but was a bit nervous for unknown reasons. How strange. It his heart is playing games with him.He walks into the safety hall to take his helmet & clock in.
This is strange, his nerves are increasing by minute. His knees are trembling.
"Shi-fiso, are you okay? " his white manager asks .
"Yes, all alright" He's even giving a thumbs up to convince him otherwise.
He steps into the oil stained elevator & goes down the black hole
As soon as he steps outbtue elevator the nerves are suddenly over. He feels okay again. Work continues as usual. The miners are debating about soccer matches coming up this friday. They've all turned to prophets, each foretelling how the game will unfold. Sfiso is mute.
