@mboltonwx @nwas @ametsoc @AMSEarlyCareer Imposter syndrome in meteorology as a WOC is very real. Many days I feel like my colleagues (not necesarily at my current station) may not see me as smart/capable/eloquent/etc enough or that I got to where I am because of a "quota" and not my degree. 1/
@mboltonwx @nwas @ametsoc @AMSEarlyCareer Many days I feel like I am not smart/capable/eloquent/etc enough because I don't see too many WOC in the weather community. We're out here but the numbers in comparison are low. There's an unspoken pressure I think when you're one of few and 2/
@mboltonwx @nwas @ametsoc @AMSEarlyCareer feel like not only the younger generation of meteorologists but the current and older generations are all watching you. Some of which are waiting for you to fail to say "they can't do it. let's not put any faith in them" 3/
@mboltonwx @nwas @ametsoc @AMSEarlyCareer In order to combat this (and some of the other feelings others have mentioned), I always look for a way to get better. Take a MetEd module (or at least add it to my queue), find a new site for data and work on decoding it and possibly trying to work it into my forecast routine 4/
@mboltonwx @nwas @ametsoc @AMSEarlyCareer Social media can enhance these feelings of not belonging/not good enough. Studying and getting better gets you off SM and out of the comparison trap. Find your lane, get the blinders on and move forward (slow progress is still good!) 5/
@mboltonwx @nwas @ametsoc @AMSEarlyCareer In short, I'm very happy this topic will be brought up, can you tell? 😅
All the best in your presentation!
