The mental gymnastics I see companies go through to avoid vendor lock-in (and also "reasons" for multi-cloud) are always astounding.
Lock-in comes from depending on the benefits of a service, not because the vendor is completely in control. The alternative is vendor "lock-out", which basically means you aren't leveraging the value of commodity services.
It's just really baffling to me the amount of money companies are willing to spend on things that do not differentiate them in any way whatsoever and, in fact, forces them to divert resources from business-differentiating things.
