The Department of Social Protection, not content with its existing data protection problems, has now decided it wants to monitor what you're saying about it on your social networks, forums and blogs. (Hat-tip to @eire_mark who spotted this.) 1/
The Sideshow Bob rake department, as it shall henceforth be known, has a request for tender out. The website is a faff to use, and the docs long, so I've put the relevant bits in a PDF here: docdro.id/il7iRR2 2/
A particular highlight for me is that the department apparently wants to create an archive of your posts talking about it. 3/
Would now be a good time to mention that your views about the department are likely to be political opinions which are a "special category of personal data" under the GDPR? So what part of Article 9(2) GDPR is being relied upon? 4/
This is exactly the sort of thing that requires an independent and effective Data Protection Officer to examine it before it happens. Will the department DPO get the chance to do this? Or will the Secretary General freeze him out of this area as well? 5/
Best of all, the contract specifies that this social media monitoring must be supplied 364 days a year (xmas day excluded). Where's the urgency? Is the department afraid that people might say nasty things about it on Twitter on a Saturday and it won't find out until Monday? 6/6
PS: Full request for tender available here - irl.eu-supply.com/app/rfq/public…
PPS: For more on the legality of social media monitoring see papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf… by @lilianedwards and @mooseabyte
