When I see YouTube videos and it's someone ripping up a comic they don't like, or stabbing (!!! what the fuck?!) it, and it's got like 4000 views and filmed on a phone... I think about the time it takes to make a Strip Panel Naked versus views - pushing hate is so much easier
I tweeted about this before, but monetising hate seems so easy on these platforms. YouTube especially, but everywhere loves things that centre around negativity and attacking people and their work, and the platforms end up pushing them, so groups of people see it as acceptable.
It's so much easier to stand up and say "This thing sucks", because it doesn't require you to put anything of yourself out there. Being outwardly passionate and positive is more difficult. But people clearly love to see someone shit on something.
It's really difficult to offer up alternatives when YouTube ends up sending you to useless, hateful videos almost instantly (stuff gets recommends after my videos, even recommended next to my channel for example) and twitter is useless for good conversation.
I'm not the first person to be like "Oh boy YouTube sucks", obviously, but what's happened to you to get you to the point you're filming a video of you stabbing a comic (by people you've also gone after on twitter) is deep. And no doubt these two platforms played a huge part.
These platforms don't care -- or, well, they *do* care, because it's exactly this discussion and extremes going against each other that fuels the place. If it didn't have that, everyone would be much better off in their own fan chatrooms or whatever. It needs it, so they push it.
YouTube especially looooves people that post a lot, and because these channels are just someone ranting for twenty minutes over an image or a screen recording, they pump out loads a week, and YT pushes it and pushes it and loves it.
And the people making these videos might start off with an 'agenda', but that agenda switches to "making a tonne of money now that I can" as YT pushes their work, and they make the videos a little longer to hit that advertising sweet spot, and their content pushes a little more.
Anyway, whatever. This thread brought to you by a clip of someone stabbing a comic (made by real human people, by the way, regardless of what you think of their work, what the fuck is wrong with you?) on YouTube for a few thousand people.
