Seriously: Do NOT use similar-purposed blocker(s) along with uBlock Origin: this will cripple uBO's ability to defuse anti-blocker mechanisms and its ability to minimize likelihood of site breakage. ("similar-purposed" = any other blocker making use of EasyList).
Pic shows filters which can be broken by other similar-purposed blockers. This on top of wasting CPU/memory resources: uBO already enforces EasyList. Also, Adblock Plus/AdBlock still suffer from extremetech.com/computing/1824… (possibly worst now, filter lists have grown since then)
Quick example of negative interference from using Adblock Plus along uBlock Origin.

uBO: default settings
ABP: check "Block additional tracking", uncheck "Allow Acceptable Ads"

Result: a 4-sec delay at page load time. No such delay with only uBO.

The Labour anti-Semitism scandal has reached the point where Rachel Riley, presenter of the TV quiz show 'Countdown' is citing Chomsky and the Faurisson affair. As usual all the reactions to this are fucking terrible, so here's some quick background.
Faurisson was a well known French Holocaust denier. Here's a couple of his books to establish that for those not familiar. There are multiple obituaries online.
Chomsky is a free-speech absolutist, so similar-ish to the ACLU's defence of Nazis' right to march at Skokie in 1978, he's also been outspoken against the prosecution of holocaust deniers in France.

For people who felt safe from online tracking because they use tracker-blocking browser extensions (such as uBlock Origin and many others), a pair of recent studies brings some bad news. Let’s look at the findings and what we can do about them. [Thread]
A draft paper from last week uses an obvious-in-retrospect way to find new trackers: by detecting domains that drop tracking pixels. Turns out that filter lists like EasyList/EasyPrivacy (on which most extensions are based) miss over 20% of these trackers. arxiv.org/pdf/1812.01514…

1) It is true that a lot of effort goes into tracking the way we interact with the net. I consider it a blight that is worth preventing. The good news is that to some degree it is possible to opt out of this garbage.
2) The bad news is that it is not exactly simple to opt out. If you're primary gateway to the net is a mobile device I do not know how to help. There are browsers that claim to be private, but I do not trust mobile platforms to maintain any amount of privacy.
3) I always make sure to use the following tools when browsing the net. Https everywhere, uBlock origin, and scriptsafe. Https everywhere and uBlock are simple. The former ensures that any website that has the ability to encrypt transmissions on the wire does so.
