I do not like "jokes" about safewords. Safewords are a HUGELY important part of both safe kink and *CONSENT*.

Joking about "forgettable" or "impossible to say" safewords are akin to saying "consent doesn't matter".

Consent is paramount. No exception. Not even as a "joke"

Stoplights are the best safewords I know. Everyone should know what they mean, and they are universal and easy for anyone to use.

Green - All good, keep going
Yellow - Pause for a second, something is wrong
Red - Immediate full stop.

Also, anyone can safeword a scene. Anyone. Top, bottom, dom, sub, consensual observers, anyone.

They are there for the safety of everyone. Anyone involved can call a safeword for any reason, and everyone MUST respect it. No exceptions.

If the question that crossed your mind is "Why would anyone in their right minds invite old Naren?", you can pat yourself on the back for your extraordinary Sherlockian skills. And if you instantly found the answer, which is "Ah, it was Sheela they invited" you can add Poirot to

that list. She really does look heavenly when she steps out in evening wear. Unfortunately, in my case that's not a given. Every time I've selected what clothes I should wear, Sheela has had to overrule, necessitating an arduous redressal (haha) of that situation (I'm so witty!)

This discussion was getting long, so I thought I'd lay out my thoughts on a common argument: should models produce probabilities or decisions? Ie 32% chance of cancer vs "do a biopsy".

I favour the latter, because IMO it is both more useful and... more honest. IMO:

The argument against using a threshold to determine an action, at a basic level, seems to be:

1) you shouldn't discard information by turning a range of probabilities into a binary
2) probabilities are more useful at the clinical coalface

No model discards information. The continuous output score always exists. It is how you make use of that information at point of care that "changes".

I use airquotes around "changes", because this is a ... false dichotomy 😆

This probably falls under #TMI for Twitter. Here’s a (very true) story:

Back in October, I learned about the son of someone at my UU congregation who needed a kidney. Now, a few years ago, I had started a workup at Mayo for a colleague I barely knew who also needed a kidney. /1

The colleague found a better matched donor and my process didn’t get past screening questions and (lots of) bloodwork. When I learned of this new need, though I had only met the mom maybe twice and her adult son not at all, I figured I would offer again. /2

This time, I went through the @JohnsHopkins program. It took time. Lots of paperwork, interviews (to make sure I was uncoerced and of sound mind), more bloodwork, a psych screening, etc. Eventually I got through it far enough to go through major testing. /3

1. It's a few days late, but wanted to take readers on a short journey I made Friday afternoon on the final day of operation of Three Mile Island. #TMI

2. Growing up in #LancasterCounty, it was nearly impossible to avoid the shadow of the #TMI cooling towers looming large on the banks of the Susquehanna River, steam constantly rising high on the horizon.

3. I wasn't even 2 years old when disaster struck #TMI's Unit 2 reactor. My brother was just a week old. My mother still tells the story of packing the car and getting ready to go to relatives in #SomersetCounty because of the fear of the unknown.
