37 of the reported 235 "may have been intended for the previous item in the data collection." 
Only 11 (!) of the 235 were independently confirmed by NPR.
This is really admirable work by @anya1anya and her team.
Re my menshies, there's no indication this is willful misinfo by the DoE or the reporting schools. It's just standard bureaucratic dysfunction, and a reminder of the value of journalists who recognize stats that don't pass the smell test and do the grunt work of verifying them.
