Dear Senator @timkaine, I'm glad you supported the Sanders-Lee-Murphy proposal. Senator @MarkWarner, I wonder if you can explain your June 13 vote to me; I don't understand it. Congressman @GerryConnolly, I vote in your district, but don't know where you stand on this.
I'd be grateful if your offices kept me updated about how you're voting on any bill relevant to ending this carnage, which as far as I can see is not only a humanitarian catastrophe but a strategic disaster for the United States.
I'm open to being convinced otherwise, but so far I've heard no argument that makes any sense to me. (You can see my good faith efforts to find a solid counter- argument here: . If there's a better one, please let me know.)
And if there isn't, it's truly morally incumbent upon us to do everything in our power to stop this. I understand that Congress's power in this regard--and certainly the Democrats' power, for now--is limited, but you have the power to make the issue a much greater priority:
Both by raising public awareness of it, and the relevance of this issue to the upcoming midterms, and by making it a priority issue in negotiations with the White House. As far as I can see--and again, I'm open to being convinced I'm wrong--
There is no good strategic or moral reason for us to participate in the bombing, starvation, and immiseration of a desperately poor country; there is no credible threat to vital US interests, for now; and this is a violation of quite a few US laws and Constitutional principles.
Please keep me updated. I'll be thinking of this when I vote, and want to be confident that you're giving it as much thought as I am.
