We all change as we grow older and experience more of the world. our assumptions are challenged and we reconsider long-held opinions.

Like me, for example. I now tend to feel Jocks are OK and Nerds are Shit.

High school me would be so disappointed.
But then, high school me didn't know ppl who made fun comics about power lifting and running marathons and had goofy Iron Man/Tough Mudder personas. Annnnd nowadays, nerds SWAT people for using the wrong gun in a video game.

Soooooo.
I often wonder how much of this change of opinion has to do with the concept of the "nerd" being neatly divorced from any assumption of thoughtfulness or intelligence, and reduction to a marketing demographic.
"Nerd" use to mean the kid who valued academia over anything else and wanted to be a rocket scientist or whatever. Now it's more likely to mean "My cubicle is covered in figurines and I gatekeep international megacorp franchises without a speck of self-awareness."
