I sense from my social media feeds, and from conversations in my travels, that there is a deep need for many of us to process and grieve the betrayal we feel over the evangelical alignment with Trump. Hoping to launch some projects to this end soon.
I know my own bent is toward cynicism, but that’s an avoidance strategy. I don’t want to face my anger and sadness, so I numb myself. But in so doing, I numb myself to joy, healing, and connecting. To heal in a healthy way, we have to grieve. There needs to be a space for that.
I “left” evangelicalism long before 2016, but the election still felt like a gut punch. People understandably urge me to just move on - vote blue, join the Mainline, get with the progressive program etc. - but there is a need here to grieve well what has been left behind.
