Promising start to ADJUSTMENT DAY:

"Remember, Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself.

- John Adams"
Been a while since I read any Palahniuk, he's still a stylist but he's evolved since earlier works. Grade A storyteller, still just 1% in and I'm hooked
"Rufus shuffles his pages, being, 'Brolly-...Brolly...' His fingertip traces down some list, and Rufus goes, 'You teach something called "The Arrogant Legacy of Privileged Euro-Colonial Cultural Imperialism"?'"

Prof is equivalent of a teen who just had sex in 80s horror movie 😂
Our doomed professor is wearing Indian-style capri pants, sweatshirt that says "THIS IS WHAT A FEMINIST LOOKS LIKE," and carrying a yoga mat. Serves on "the university Committee Against Wounding the Earth"

lmao Palahniuk as subtle as always
This is straight-up BAP-poasting—now discussing how too many young men in a society creates wars, upheavals, and revolutions, like Conquistadors and French Revolution.

Only political solution to too many young men is to start a war and burn them off!
A senator muses on the American public's lack of outrage for an impending massive war against North Africa

Always hard to know an author's true beliefs, but he's certainly poking at the idea that multicultural democracy creates a low-trust society
One thing Palahniuk's nailing so far is the utter distrust, even hatred, between older elites and dispossessed youth. Happens in every era, but the fact our youths are the first Americans with worse standards of living is very real—hence the rise in populism both right and left
This is completely wild. Kid, Frankie, is savagely beaten at school by ethnics (though this is just cunningly hinted at: Nikes, World Star Hip Hop vids of the attack). So his dad starts burning down every public school, including their pro-diversity posters.
What I'm getting from the dialogue isn't that Palahniuk approves of this response—but he's accurately capturing, and exaggerating, the (inter)national mood.

Instinct so far (8% in) is that Palahniuk won't nail every last detail, but he very much gets the vibe.
"Enter Dr. Ramantha Steiger-DeSoto, a senior professor in Gender Studies at the university."

Knew about this prof's name from the review I read but this still slays me

"She looked every inch the no-nonsense sociologist who stood ready to enlighten the television viewers."
The good professor, offering her Current Year analysis of the motives of the school arson mentioned earlier that was actually spurred by interracial crime against a man's child, holy shit my sides, this book came out in May but he knew they'd blame incels for everything 😂😂😂
Father, perceiving son grievously injured by multicultural progressivism, lashes out in violence.

University elite seizes media to "educate" the public and further demonize the aggrieved group to push academics' progressive narrative.

Palahniuk has 100% read Moldbug.
Got to call it quits for the night. So far this is full of zeitgeist, identifying the anger and disconnect between what people feel and what their elites are telling them to feel. Funny too. This is a blast
Last thought for this session:

No, Palahniuk isn't /ourguy/. He's a provocateur and a shit-stirrer, someone who notices problems + hypocrisy and rubs our noses in it.

He's not a reactionary. More of a novelistic Metokur.

In some ways this is more dangerous to status quo.
Okay, back at it for a bit.

I don't agree with this. Leftism HAS tried to flatten all "pleb" hierarchies while taking over all the important ones.

Problem is, for totally unknown reasons, their policies keep failing. That's the main rise of populism: distrust in bad leaders
I have now experienced the literary equivalent of edging
Btw, many reviews complained there were too many characters. So far, there are a ton.

Have a feeling this is what you might call a "collage novel," where rather than focusing on one/a few characters' experience, you include a ton—only method to evoke the collective Mood
The Habbening begins. Commissars—or Obergruppenfuhrers?—Jamal and Keishaun just shot the first professor.

They also righted a disrespected American flag, and burned the copy of RULES FOR RADICALS the prof was reading.

Obvious nonsense. Prof would already know Alinsky by heart
A worthless bedridden NEET with a catheter just faced down the mother who's been medicating him and bringing him his equivalent of tendies year after year, keeping him weak

But the power of his father's forbidden book has just freed him

Palahniuk has been reading /r9k/ 😂😂😂
It's hilarious watching woke Rainbows try to claim Palahniuk as a gay man. He's a ROGUE gay man, has nearly zero interest in women at all.

Almost no women of consequence so far; ones who do exist seem to be at war with men, seeking to suppress their SPIRIT

24% in, done tonight.
