More details from @metpoliceuk - suspects arrived 2 March at Gatwick; next day travelled to Salisbury; returned to Moscow via Heathrow on 4 March, the day Skripal was found poisoned. Police say: "CCTV shows them in the vicinity of Mr Skripal’s house."

Key to this story is 265.com, a Chinese-language web directory service that claims to be “China’s most used homepage.” Google purchased the site in 2008 from Cai Wensheng, a billionaire Chinese entrepreneur.
Unlike most Google-owned websites — such as YouTube & Google.com — 265.com is not blocked in China & can be freely accessed by people in the country using any standard internet browser. That makes it uniquely valuable for the company.

I spoke to @YonatanZunger, who was until last year a 14-year veteran of Google & one of the leading engineers at the company. He was among a small group who had been asked to work on Dragonfly -- he was tasked with producing a privacy review of the China search engine.
Zunger is the first person with direct involvement in Dragonfly to go on the record about the project. He told me it was managed in a "highly unusual" way from the outset.
Zunger said that in early 2017 he pointed out to executives managing Dragonfly that Chinese people could be at risk of interrogation or detention if they were found to have used Google to seek out information banned by the government.

Amnesty says the censored search engine - known as Dragonfly - would “irreparably damage internet users’ trust" in Google & “set a dangerous precedent for tech companies enabling rights abuses by governments.”

Police said the two men were travelling on authentic Russian passports and arrived in the UK on an Aeroflot flight days before the attack. The Crown Prosecution Service said there was enough evidence to charge them.

I downloaded recent tweets for the hashtag #Novichok, which started seeing significant traffic March 12th. This yielded 15371 tweets from 10668 accounts. I classified the top 50 accounts by retweet volume (74% of tweets in the set) based on their attribution of the attack.
This chart shows the volume for #Novichok tweets, classified by the perspective being expressed. Note that the portion of the volume in the “whataboutism” category has increased greatly over the past 12 hours.
