LAW 6: Court attention at all cost.

Attention is power. @RobertGreene recognizes that social power usually accrues to those who get the attention.

But behind the law lurks a practice of Mind so powerful that some would call it magick. Ignore it at your peril.
1. The power of attention is nested deeply in your biology. You've been using it since you were born.

Babies shriek in the most annoying ways to get their parents' attention. That maximizes their chances of surviving and growing up well-fed and protected.
2. Things in the focus of attention are automatically perceived as more important than other matters.

This is a neurobiological fact – availability and confirmation biases are encoded in your physiology to help you survive in the bush.
3. People are social animals. They will pay attention to something just because others are paying attention to it.

Safety-seeking with the cognitive herd is a biological instinct. This is the natural law behind the power of celebrity.
4. Attention is the essential ingredient of persuasion. You can’t persuade anyone without getting one's attention first.
5. Your baby doesn't get your attention with presents and compliments. It gets the job done by disrupting your life and grinding on your brain.

Cajoling and explaining rarely move people to radical action. Disrupt their mindset and make them uncomfortable to get the big results.
6. Understand that trolls and detractors are a sign of your power, and they amplify it. This is a big reason I don't block idiots on Twitter.
7. The dead culture has turned the lo-awarenes mass into attention junkies. They don't seek attention to gain power, but to get validation.

Stay away from such feeble-minded people. You may be tempted to manipulate them, but they are more trouble than they're worth.
8. Understand that you are subject to attention biases because of your very physicality.

Learn to discern when your attention is being manipulated, as by social media apps. When your attention is hijacked, power is being exerted over you.
9. The more you pay attention to something, the more power you give it. Take this to be a law of nature.
10. Nothing that you pay attention to is free. Your attention is a hefty price to pay.
11. Understand that attention is a Great Power of Mind. It can be used to great effect when directed inward, as well as outward.

Mastery of your own attention is a craft in its own right and a skill you build like any other – by doing.
When you pay attention to things in the environment, you make them larger, more important and more powerful.

Pay attention to what improves your life and well-being, ignore the pests – the trolls, the naysayers, the gamesmanship. Or laugh at them – and drain their power.
When you pay attention to your thoughts, feelings and sensations, you direct energy towards your inner world.

Use attention to amplify the mind dynamics that serve you (desire, enjoyment, resolve) and draw energy from those that don't (anger, pain, disappointment).
12. Directing your attention towards Yourself amplifies you and feeds your growth. Allowing the external world to consume all your energy makes you fragile.

This is why outwardly successful people who neglect the inner work often end up addicted, depressed and suicidal.
13. Competitiveness is weak and lo-awarenes because it directs your attention to what other people are doing.

It's a form of surrender.

Understand that you're the measure of all things. Your betterment day after day is where you direct your attention for an Exalted life.
14. Attention is like electricity – energizing, but also magnetizing. You attract the kinds of people you pay attention to.
The magnetism of attention is a time-tested principle of salesmanship, not some woo-woo.

Persuaders will sometimes annoy people to get their attention – then pivot to the sale. The type of attention is irrelevant.
If you pay attention to losers, whiners, opinion junkies and other segments of the lo-awarenes mass, you draw them to yourself.

The people you're surrounded with you become. Never forget this.
15. The magnetic force of attention is a fundamental business principle. The savviest businesspeople don't push product out, they draw sales in.

They pay attention to their partners, customers and the market, and don't allow competitors to define them. Demand floods in.
16. Directed attention is how we build strong Foundations of Awareness, so we can achieve mastery of Mind.

Next few missives introduce this critical practice.
