It is becoming increasingly clear that Judge Kavanaugh has misled the Senate Judiciary Committee in a number of ways. This should raise immediate red flags for all Senators and the American public.
First, in his 2004 hearing, he told Sen Feinstein that the WH didn’t know about potential judicial nominees’ views on abortion in the vast majority of cases. But recently released emails show that he was often told about & discussed nominees’ views and ideology, including on Roe.
For example, a document produced for the Committee shows that Kavanaugh was told about the fact that a potential nominee for the Fifth Circuit was “pro-life.”

Second, Judge Kavanaugh repeatedly denied knowledge of the Bush Administration’s policy on detention and interrogation of combatants. But emails released this week indicate that he had meetings on the subject, reviewed talking points, and opined on legal strategy.
Third, Judge Kavanaugh claimed that he only learned of President Bush’s warrantless surveillance program when it became public, but an email suggests he knew about a memo providing the justification for the White House’s authorization of the program.
Fourth, Judge Kavanaugh said that he didn’t personally work on the extremely controversial nomination of Judge William Pryor, but new records tell a different story. Dozens of emails show Judge Kavanaugh was personally involved.

Fifth, the judge appears to have misled us regarding what he knew about emails stolen from the Senate Dems by a Republican operative. The judge claims he didn’t knew they were stolen, but that seems increasingly implausible.

The extent of these misstatements is extremely disturbing, and this is what we’ve found in only the small portion of his record Republicans have released. Given what we’ve heard this week, they should immediately release the rest of his White House records.
