THREAD: An overview of our #RegentGate coverage on Chancellor Bob Duncan’s ouster at #TexasTech, from August 13 til now.

Get your 🍿...
On the evening of Monday, August 13, we reported that Chancellor Bob Duncan was out at Texas Tech

In days to come, we reported that 5 regents took no-confidence vote an executive session (where votes are unlawful). A vote overseen by chairman Rick Francis of El Paso. Francis, John Steinmetz, Mickey Long, Chris Huckabee and Ron Hammonds were the Five. othersideoftexas.com/2018/08/21/tex…
Of the Gang of Five that voted against Duncan:
* John Steinmetz is CEO of Vista Bank
* Mickey Long the Chairman of Vista’s Board
* Chris Huckabee owns “at least 10,000 shares” of Vista. Huckabee holds very few stocks.. Regents’ Rules seem to be violated: othersideoftexas.com/2018/08/24/tex…
Oh, and Vista holds a mortgage “of at least $1 million” to the world’s most powerful Aggie, former Texas Governor and current U.S. Secretary of Energy @SecretaryPerry [Steinmetz is known to be BFFs with Perry’s son Griffin and friends with dad; Steinmetz (L) and Perry (R) below]
Huckabee also landed a $24 million Tarleton State football stadium contract, announced on June 1, 2016. Tarleton State is a component of the Texas A&M System.

Shortly thereafter, upon strong sourcing, we reported more details on events in late 2016, wherein Gov. Abbott’s then-chief of staff is said to have threatened the regents to decide between a proposed dental and a vet school othersideoftexas.com/2018/08/24/tex…
In the days to come, it was proved, based on documents, that what we originally reported as Duncan’s “ouster” was in fact a forced retirement othersideoftexas.com/2018/08/25/tex…
Our research found Chairman Francis has more than a few questionable conflicts of interests in a dental school in downtown El Paso with his business partners. Dental school could bring $100 million in annual economic impact #Borderplex othersideoftexas.com/2018/09/06/tex…
Prior, we discussed Gov. Abbott’s growing Lubbock Problem, wherein some of Lubbock’s stoutest Republican business leaders backed out of an August 22 Abbott campaign fundraiser because they questioned the Gov’s involvement othersideoftexas.com/2018/08/30/gov…
Then smoke gathered. Abbott’s former chief-of-staff Daniel Hodge is now on contract as a “consultant” for the Texas A&M System Office— an office overseen by the world’s biggest opponent to Tech’s vet school, A&M Chancellor John Sharp [H/T @scottbraddock] othersideoftexas.com/2018/09/08/for…
Then former Chancellor Bob Duncan wrote an op-ed on Sunday, Sept 9, stating:

“There is abundant and warranted speculation on the actions of the board of regents that led to my decision to retire. At the proper time, I will engage in those discussions” lubbockonline.com/opinion/201809…
From here: Several public records requests that we’ve filed are expected to return in the next couple of days— like communications between Hodge and Francis, as well as Sharp and any other Tech regents. Stay tuned...
