As a New Yorker for 20 years, nothing has been more depressing than to watch the subway go to shit after seeing its miraculous recovery. That's all on the Governor. And I'm loathe to admit that George Pataki didn't fuck it up as much as Andrew Cuomo.
But you know what else ruined the subway. Silicon Valley. The city streets are clogged with black Toyota Camrys on lease with T&LC plates driven by 1099 immigrants making minimum wage. All that money isn't going into the MTA. It's going into VC portfolios.
Cuomo couldn't even get Joe Lhota to give up his NYU Langone gig to fix the MTA full-time after declaring a state of emergency. Lhota was first appointed by the Giuliani administration. NYU Langone was one of Cambridge Analytica's last clients before it filed for bankruptcy.
