Thread. This one’s by @jamiedupree about Florida races headed to recount. Recounts rarely change election winners, historically. People should note, though, that recent increased use of early & mail voting, also provisional ballots, has implications for how votes get counted.
Ideally, early votes would get counted right away, votes mailed in would arrive before Election Day, and provisional votes would be few in number. None of these things always happens, partly because many state election officials have little experience w/unconventional procedures
It can look dodgy for large numbers of votes to “show up” after votes cast on Election Day have been counted, but it rarely is. The votes either were already there or got there late after being lawfully cast, and just haven’t been counted yet.

Texas number crunch thread

1) If you live somewhere, you’re more nervous. That’s why Florida folks worry about Gillum even though numbers are more in favor of GOP than they ever are.

2) likewise, people in TX see all the Beto mania going on and worry that the state will cuck.
3) outsiders have no worry about it, generally.

4) so I did the only thing you can do. Run the numbers.

5) here’s what I found:
6) the TX SOS website has early voting listings going back to 1992.

2014 had very low turnout, and was a GOP blowout. 2016 had presidential turnout, though not huge totals of votes compared to other states, and was closer, so I’m going with that.

Trump won by 24 in 2016.
2.5 million all votes cast in 2016.
2) With early voting complete we are up to 1.5 million votes cast. I estimate we end up w around 2 m total votes cast. Considering election day R turnout is usually higher (as in other states), that Blue county percentage may indeed decline to final 2016 percentage."
3) So Blue counties up a little over a percent. "Ravi" estimates red counties will be up huge and that when the red counties are included, D percentage will fall back to 2016 levels.
