Thread. This one’s by @jamiedupree about Florida races headed to recount. Recounts rarely change election winners, historically. People should note, though, that recent increased use of early & mail voting, also provisional ballots, has implications for how votes get counted.
Ideally, early votes would get counted right away, votes mailed in would arrive before Election Day, and provisional votes would be few in number. None of these things always happens, partly because many state election officials have little experience w/unconventional procedures
It can look dodgy for large numbers of votes to “show up” after votes cast on Election Day have been counted, but it rarely is. The votes either were already there or got there late after being lawfully cast, and just haven’t been counted yet.
