been thinking a lot today about hp's wizarding world and colonialism and the patil twins, and getting steadily more wound up about everything not making sense
like... I have *some* understanding of the history of south asian migration to the uk. did the patils come over to work in industrial towns, the nhs, airports as many did? or were they east african? was their journey less bound by these waves of migration?
or does it make no sense to claim wizarding south asians would travel over in 'muggle' waves of migration? if they *didn't* come because of 'muggle' political forces, what is the history of migration in the wizarding world? is there a wizarding uk desi community?
if they came as part of a muggle migration wave... how co-mingled are muggle and wizarding east african and south asian communities? were south asian wizard and witches impacted by colonialism and empire? if not - HOW not?
EVEN IF THEY DIDN'T NOTICE THE EAST INDIA COMPANY, THE RAJ, PARTITION ETC - are the Patil family totally okay with padma and parvati learning spells in latin with wands etc? is there no history of indian witchcraft completely divorced from... latin? because. i mean.
The only way this makes sense remotely is if padma and parvati are muggle-born BUT we have good reason to believe they're not, as they're pulled from school after dumbledore dies, so....
I have questions:
-where are the POC wizarding communites? WHERE. IS. WIZARDING. SOUTHALL.

-not so much a question as a statement: isn't it interesting that pureblood wizarding society is modelled on british nobility who became rich on empire and yet there's somehow no empire
-if asian/african wizards migrated b/c of the global consequences of empire, colonialism and wii as muggles did WHICH IS THE ONLY THING THAT MAKES SENSE (see thread above) then.... maybe the whole 'hidden wizarding world' thing... doesn't work?
ok, rant done, I promise. I'M JUST SO CONFUSED. I was willing to accept the world building of HP as was, but if you open the global bucket via fantastic beasts, nagini etc... you have to be able to explain how everything *works*
final final addition: if your non-white characters have no community or history, you may want to think about that. because I promise you, they should.
