Owen "Only a madman would leave the Market" Paterson is correct; but Remain campaigners also made it clear that backing Leave meant, inter alia: a punishment budget, half a million job losses, and a recession by 2017. Will it still be a *real* Brexit if these don't come to pass?
In a speech in 2014, Owen Paterson criticised those who conflate the EU and the Single Market, such as (then) the CBI. He should have added "my future self".
In 2014, Owen did seem to understand that the Single Market (EEA) was not the same thing as the EU. He argued explicitly for the UK to leave the EU and remain party to the EEA by rejoining EFTA:

A thread on the contradictions of leaving the EU. It'll try to be as neutral as possible in the circumstances. And it'll try to be simple and logical.

Let's separate this area by area into bite sized chunks so we can understand them, and then look at what we have at the end.
1. trade.
EU is the UKs largest trading partner, about 40-50% of trade depending on whether you count services. That trade % is declining over time, but not fast.

Most of your infrastructure and logistics are built around the EU too so that's a factor to consider.
So if you're gonna pay for your economy after Brexit you have to trade with the EU, or find a way to replace 40-50% of your economy, with a bit of wiggle room in the future for declining share of EU.

And you have to be efficient enough to pay for the increased logistics costs.

1/ Scoop: Using Palantir, the LAPD has updated its predictive formula to determine “probable offenders” for police to surveill. Docs show analysts are supposed to maintain “a minimum” of 12 targets, and replace them with “back-ups” as they are arrested:

2/ Palantir is used to compile reports on people, not necessarily suspected of criminal activity. LAPD claims these reports are for “informational purposes,” but docs show officers are supposed to ask themselves "how many chronic offenders have been arrested” in past 2 weeks.
3/ Here’s the kind of research that analysts pull in Palantir to help officers find and target their pre-crime targets (note this bulletin was created before the LAPD began using Palantir):

1) I am in favor of any DACA deal that ends chain migration. Reducing LEGAL immigration is something few talk about, but continuing to let in 1 million immigrants legally every year is death by small cuts for the GOP.
2) Chain migration elimination will pay for DACA in less than 2 years. The McSally bill in Congress seems to understand this basic math.
3) Democrats are obsessed with stopping The Wall, because it's a big image, a big anchor. The Wall is important, but the sections that are fences need to be rebuilt first. That money has been authorized anyway, and work will continue.
