Another 5000 people were successfully fed yesterday from the post in Tentena. Now as we reach into Donggala (that area north of Palu going up the neck of Central Sulawesi) where no aid has arrived yet, we find it's in an even worse state than Palu.
This is an area that even in the best of times is low on resources. Now every store is empty, every bottle of water gone, no electricity, and no working banks to get money to get anything. Let alone toilets.
There also seems to be no government which makes the case that Indonesia should really declare this a national emergency (last time they did was for Aceh) to get more help from Jakarta.
For now, it's down to a hardy grassroots volunteer effort that your contributions are directly fueling. THANK YOU, people are alive today because of your help.
Today Lian and her network will focus on setting up community kitchens in areas around Poso and Palu to get the food faster to people with less gas needed for the cars and bikes (they started it in Tentena where there is still decent access to food).
Yesterday tons of donations rolled in including a huge help from Kopernik in Ubud. Lian and I are keeping a strict record of all the donations in the various currencies to make sure every rupiah gets accounted for.
For the next week, it's really up to the local people to ensure no one dies of hunger, thirst, or untreated wounds in the equatorial heat of Central Sulawesi. So that's all we are gonna think about for now and then worry about the future later.
