Really helpful session with my therapist today. We did a cleansing/protection visualization where I purged the bad shit I was hanging onto and put up a protective shield to help me move though the world with all this difficult shit going on right now.
I told her that I didn’t feel strong enough to maintain the protection shield and that it would dissipate if I lost focus. But I immediately realized that I don’t have to hold the shield up constantly, I can just raise it when I need it.
We’ve been rewatching Star Trek TNG lately and the thing that came to my mind was when they go on red alert and there is an alarm that sounds and they say “shields up”. So I can just 🚨 whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed and that visualization makes so much sense to me.
We also talked about reclaiming and reintegrating those parts of me that have been taken from me by abuse/trauma which is something I’d never even thought about before & it felt like a really powerful tool.
Right now, I’m not sure what those parts are and what they even look like but the thought of reclaiming what belongs to me that no one had a right to take without my permission is really affirming. So yeah, I’m gonna get back what those motherfuckers took from me.
