A view of Rangamandapa of Koppeshwara temple in Khidrapur, Maharastra (old name: Koppam)

The construction of the temple commenced during the reign of Silahara king Gandaraditya (c.1120 CE) and was completed by his grandson Bhoja . Bhoja was defeated by Seunas and Konkan annexed
Although the Seuna king Singana continued donations, he did not erect any new structure.

The temple has a star shaped Garbhagriha, Antarala and Gudhamandapa on the outside. The architecture of the temple shows that it was visited and worshiped especially during solar eclipse
Temple is around 100 feet tall (excluding pyramidal Shikhara). It was extensively destroyed by an army of Islam during one of Aurangzeb's invasions of Maharashtra. The remains are its ruins.

While the temple is primarily Shaivite, there is a mutilated image of a huge Adivaraha
Unfortunately,this temple architecture is extinct.

There were no temples constructed in the region from 13th century until Shivaji. Jihadis destroyed temples and architecture style fell in disuse and became extinct. This is the reason why Shivaji's early temples resemble mosques

Here is Shivaji's earliest temple. A Hindu temple was built for the first time after late 13th and early 14th century
As temples were destroyed and temple architecture mostly forgotten,Shivaji used as a convenience the existing architecture of Tombs and Mosques to build this Shiva temple. But he also began to rejuvenate discarded traditions and later Maratha temple imitate old Yadava temple forms
Temple has a unique style which could only be classified as early medieval Konkan art.
1)A panel of Koppeshwara temple depicts Shiva and Parvati seated on a Nandi.
2) A woman(Silhara Queen?) on an elephant

The temple is adorned with sculptures of Gods and Kings
