Both @Ripple and @EOS_io are "socially unscalable" according to @NickSzabo4.

Here's what social scalability means and why it's so important to @NickSzabo4 👇
Humans aren't very smart. We tend to be tribal and violent. We fight over limited resources.

The upshot is that we have a hard time working together and building institutions of mutual benefit.
Indigenous California forager societies, for example, were constantly caught up in small-scale gang wars between families. That continual petty violence prevented society from leveling up, progressing and scaling.

Social scalability is about the creation of institutional technology that helps humans overcome our native software and hardware so that more people can participate in a shared societal endeavor.
"The secret to @btc's success is that its prolific resource consumption and poor computational scalability is buying something even more valuable [than the computations themselves]: social scalability." @NickSzabo4

"Whereas the main social scalability benefit of the Internet has been matchmaking, the predominant direct social scalability benefit of blockchains is trust minimization." @NickSzabo4

That's why @Ripple strength of having strong institutional relationships is actually a negative. Traditional biz dev is trust-based and lives within the high-governance cost structure of the traditional corp—therefore it doesn't scale socially.

Whereas a "constitution" in law is a technology that has "undergone a lengthy cultural evolution" to create trust minimization within a society, @EOS_io's use of a "constitution" is a way to put a positive spin on their brand of centralization.

Even though @NickSzabo4 has been skeptical of @ethereum's execution, he gives them credit for their ideas as they're obsessive about social scalability.

To think #crypto through the social scalability lens like @NickSzabo4, ask: does it "reduce and better leverage the great expense in human resources needed to maintain the relationships between strangers involved modern institutions such as markets, large firms, and governments"?
