This came from me asking many people: what is the limit for using beam-image shift to collect data at 200 keV? Everyone said it should be worse at 200 keV than 300 keV but we were surprised no one had benchmarked this yet
So! @annotated_sci set to it - collecting an aldolase dataset on our Talos-Arctica. A part of this work was that we did not do any microscope alignments day-of, simulating what a 'worse case' scenario could be for the instrument.

While visiting some friends this weekend, I was introduced to the idea of the #tweetorial which seems to be popular in the medical field. I figured it would be useful too in #cryoEM, so here it is, the first of the series.

One of the (many) complications in analyzing an image of a tilted specimen, is the defocus gradient perpendicular to the tilt axis. It turns out with a few practical considerations, it is easy to use #cisTEM right out of the box to work with your tilted data.

You can also release it under different licenses in parallel, e. g. grant some company the right to make a closed-source derivative. All of this requires clean separation of parts you haven't authored.
@SjorsScheres @RubinsteinJohn @AlexisRohou @cjrlab @structurabio I imagine most GUIs in #cryoEM software could be made non-GPL without stepping on anyone's toes. As the field matures, ease of use becomes an equally important feature as the computational back end. Maybe something to consider when thinking about competitive advantages.
