A win for the Conservative anti no-deal party. Now how do the Conservative no-deal party react knowing that in the event of rejecting the PM's deal the numbers may exist to withdraw Article 50?
The instant judgement that this defeat is bad for the PM is I think wrong.

Most or all of the rebels today will vote for her deal, she now has a clear threat to use against ERG rebels - this deal or no Brexit.
fwiw I would say the chances of no-deal Brexit have now crashed and the chances of the PM's deal or similar gone up to perhaps 50%. But the chances of no-Brexit are also strengthening, given the PM's ability to be her own worst enemy

Am bored of reading the conventional wisdom that the EU could not renegotiate Brexit, and to make this case will borrow the wisdom of one of our most experienced MEPs @RCorbettMEP - this is how it COULD happen (and why it probably won't)
There is no more important Brexit job for MPs in the coming two months than to build consensus - something those more astute than the PM realised some time ago. Future relationship talks with a split Parliament could not succeed.

The Government may have informally asked the EU about an Article 50 Extension - we presume not for any serious reason (no-deal prep, election, referendum) but in the vague hope this somehow helps the PM's deal pass Parliament
Under three months from leaving the EU by law and we have a Government without a plan.
It is not clear that the UK Government has learned anything about negotiating with the EU over the past two and a half years

First, on Monday, the CJEU will rule on the (unilateral) revocability of A50. The Advocate General last week said that the A50 is unilaterally revocable. His Opinion is discussed here: 2/
Key things to watch for in the Court's ruling. Will it agree with the AG, or take a different course? If it agrees, will it do any more to spell out the circumstances in which a) revocation; and b) subsequent renotification; might be held to be abusive/lack good faith? 3/

The chapter begins with the Philistines invading Judah.

Philistines and Israelites face each other from their vantage points on the two sides of the Valley of Elah.
The Philistines have a big guy named Goliath on their side (v. 4).

Interestingly, after initially being named, he generally just gets called 'the Philistine' (e.g. v. 10). He no doubt thinks his name/reputation are important. The narrator doesn't.

Ivan Rogers’ lecture is an utterly damning indictment of cabinet ministers he served until recently - extract here (my bold).

In Brussels I’ve already heard it described as brilliant and saying everything that needs to be said.
It is also a great read - Brexit retold as French Revolution - guess who might be one of the “pinstriped Robespierres”.

Sir Ivan Rogers, UK's former ambassador to the EU, delivered a startlingly good lecture to Trinity College, Cambridge last night.

"Brexit as a revolution"

Some highlights:

#1: The revolution is already eating itself - particularly regarding a 2nd referendum
#2: The two ancien regimes - the UK establishment and the EU - are far from faultless for the mess we're currently in. People wanted real change but:

"We should be very careful about sweeping generalisations about why the 52% voted Leave. Or indeed why the 48% voted Remain. "
#3: Brexit revolutionaries want fundamental change in structures at home and abroad. But failing to engage with EU's reality has hurt.

"The EU has been boiling the UK frog ever since. On process, sequencing,
substance, there has been movement only one way"
