As we learn more about this morning’s attack on a Jewish Synagogue in Pittsburg, many are wondering what they can do. Here are some thoughts. Post yours as well. You can’t wait for leaders to tell you what to do. You have to publicly act and organize your friends to do the same.
1. Buy chalk and chalk #IAmGeorgeSoros on a sidewalk or draw it on paper; take a photo and post it on Facebook. Soros has become an euphemism for “Jew” and irresponsible political attacks on him have made it unsafe for the Jewish community;
2. Talk to three friends. Tell them what happened. Remind them this isn’t an attack on the Jewish community, its an attack on democracy. Explain why and use this video for help;
3. Ask your friends to call their elected officials. Demand those officials condemn this act of violence and the political environment that has created it. Hold vigils in front of the offices of elected officials. Ask them to meet with you;
4. There will be vigils and rallies. Join them. If we are to condemn antisemitism and bigotry, we must do so publicly and you have to ask, plead and beg that your friends to join you; and
5. Hug your family, friends and be kind to the stranger. Love and unity are stronger than the forces of bigotry and intimidation. Our safety is in our embrace of each other, our humanity and belief the all of us have the right to live, love and work free from fear and bigotry.
Let’s fight the fear together!
