Thread 1/3 Election reminder—in CA, you cannot fire workers for their political activism outside the workplace, including supporting a candidate on TV or radio, or running for public office. This right springs from the Labor Code (Sections 1101 & 1102), not the First Amendment/
2/3 — If you fire an employee or pressure/harass/coerce them over their political views or activism, you can be sued and the damages can include back pay, front pay, emotional distress — and the big one, attorney fees, which often exceed the damages if the case drags out, so/
3/3 — Just because some irate customers call you up flipping out that your employee has a life and polticial views they express publicly, don’t forget that your workers have significant rights and you cannot bully them or fire them for this. A public service announcement...
