Random thread: Conservative evangelicals declared the “emerging church” dead years ago, and yet I’ve been part of four events now that reflect a lot of EC themes (but with more of the diversity/intersectionality the first iterations lacked) & they’ve all sold out....
...We’re talking 1500 people plus 600+ livestream locations. At Evolving Faith, we sold out of every speakers’ books. There is obviously a movement of some kind here, but it’s not being discussed quite like the EC was...
...One big difference I observe is that the present movement isn’t just post-evangelicals; it’s post-evangelcials, Mainline Protestants, and some Pentecostal & Anabaptist folks as well. Not drawing any big conclusions. Just wondering if maybe the EC didn’t die but...evolved.
And I should add that many of the teachers from the EC of the early 2000s deeply challenged and shaped my thinking, especially @DGShroyer & @brianmclaren. So grateful for them.

This came off as more self-important than I intended it to be; I guess my main point is that whatever the EC was and is, it sure ain’t dead.
