Random thought at the grocery store:

the central failing of capitalism is the disincentivation of long-term perspective.

When combined with a government ignoring or undermining its responsibility to provide that perspective, societal decline is not far behind.

See: Facebook.
Note: governments organized around other socioeconomic philosophies aren't as susceptible to that risk - and the Soviet/Russian emphasis on the long game is a key example of that difference.
And when combined with those lusting for power domestically, working to undermine the teaching of critical thinking to increase consolidation of their power, those adversaries playing the long game will always have an edge.
That is why many on the left are aghast at the rampant rollback of regulations for the sake of rolling back regulations at the hands of the Trump admin.

Not because we like being pains in the ass of business owners... not because we want to see anyone lose their jobs...
But because under our capitalist socioeconomic philosophy, the onus is on the Government to ensure our long-term interests are given sufficient consideration - education, individual + environmental health, national security are all parts of ensuring success for our shared future.
Because that is what the ultimate aim of government should be - to serve the populace in a way that ensures each citizen has the opportunity to succeed, both now and in generations to come.
It's government's job to play the long game. To make plans, to devise strategies to ensure long-term growth and security.

It's unacceptable for government to undo a program without a replacement ready to go, or without an accounting of why that program is no longer needed.
Simply screaming that program isn't working well enough and needs to be replaced, then trying to destroy it before providing an alternate solution?
That's not governing.

That's throwing a temper tantrum.
The GOP - especially as led by Trump - is a petulant child, smashing their own toys if someone orders them to share, and leaving the pieces in the middle of the floor... not caring who may get hurt if they trip over them...
not caring until it's too late that someone else might come along and pick those pieces up and reassemble them into some new sort of freakish toy that doubles as a weapon...
then lying about the fact that it was their toy in the first place, or denying that they broke it, blaming it on some dark-skinned bogeyman.
