Heard this clip on NPR this morning (passed along without comment from them on how absurd it was.) Disgustingly dishonest. The Fox droog in the interview also just nods along. 
If we have to frame "militant Islamists" through ridiculous prisms of what's "left" and "right" they fall on the far right. Economically they're Rand and Ron Paul. Socially, they have a repressive program built to fight rights for gays, women, minorities, etc...
Similar to this op ed in The News the other day which sought to both sides the racist and anti-Semitic rhetoric of President Trump, other GOP leaders, and the terrorists who take heart from their words and.... Tamika Mallory and Farrahkan.
This rhetorical device has been popular in Israel's right wing govt for a long time and is growing here. Everything nasty and bad in the world is "left" so, ergo, nothing "left" is good. That many in the US read "left" and hear "Democratic Party" is a feature of all this.
The fact is, the vast majority of anti-Semitic incidents in the US, now and throughout our history, have been carried out by people who self-identify as of the right. That is the threat - and a growing one now - Farrahkan is a pariah, rightfully so. Trump is the US president.
Oh, I'm also seeing "left" used more and more when the speaker really just means "black or brown." Playing into this nonsense is part of the normalization of our growing public bigotry problem, not some nuanced "take" on what's going on.
