This is a particularly vile, repugnant and dangerous lie from US President Donald Trump.
1. CA does not "divert" an ounce of water into the Pacific. 2. Trump's far-right talking point that CA has not dammed enough of its rivers is another lie. There are no good dam candidates left. 3. Even if pt no. 2 wasn't a lie (don't forget: it is), irrelevant to wildfires.
"Not enough water in dams" is not why California has wildfires. The reason is shorter, dryer wet seasons, longer, dryer and hotter dry seasons, and timber die-offs due to a combination of drought stress and invasive beetles. So Trump tells two lies to make that "point."
On "must tree clear!" A massive fire program to reduce the fuel load runs across this vast state runs year round. But it is simply not humanly possible to get on top of this problem given the pace of climate change. That this shit came from the US president is fucking sickening.
We live 200 miles south of the Carr fire and our air is eye-stingingly acrid and visibility 1 mile. Our creek, a year-round trout stream a generation ago, is bone dry and only runs 9 months. None of this is caused by regulation. Far from it. Screw that smirking traffic cone.

What a real president would say: "Sad at heart about the loss of life and homes in CA. I called Gov. Brown and told him the federal govt is behind him. CA's fire-fighting and abatement budget need help. I told him I will sign any bill Congress sends me to ease the burden."
There are 4 lies in this statement from Trump earlier today. Meanwhile, as he uses California's devastating fire season for pathetic, mendacious partisanship, he's not said a peep about the 6 fire fighters who have given their lives for their fellow man.
