I’m not Jewish and want to say that up front since it colors my judgement. But I’ve felt like the American SJ movement never abandoned Jews because they were never really on Jewish ppl’s side ever. Always lot of antisemitism & lot of denial of seriousness of antisemitism.
Also in this regard & many others I’ve noticed extreme parallels btwn ableism & antisemitism & how they’re treated by left & right & SJ. Down to little details not just the way oppression is always similar. Including denial of seriousness. Long wondered y the 2 r so similar.
Also in addition to what I just said, there’s been a lot of ppl in SJ trying 2 make antisemitism into weird special case, oppression that’s different from other oppression. Setting it apart in a way that denies seriousness but also does complex other things I don’t know words for
Again I’m just an outsider observing, but this has troubled me for a long time, I just haven’t known how to articulate it. Still don’t entirely. The way antisemitism is treated, I’ve been watching it always with unease but now the unease grows into something closer to terror.
And it’s not so much a terror that the abandonment will happen. Bcs from my perspective anyway the abandonment happened a long time ago, or nvr happened because there was nvr a true alliance to abandon. But more because the fruits of abandonment are coming in worse & worse ways.
So it’s like, the abandonment, if it really was one, happened a long time ago, but right now when the shit is hitting the fan in certain ways, is when ppl need to be there, and are NOT. Matters more & more that ppl b there so it’s more dangerous that ppl aren’t & haven’t been.
And unfortunately parts of the left have made antisemitism into intellectually rigorous forms that r highly appealing to a certain kind of non-Jewish leftists. Also pardon me if I’m speaking out of turn, not used to trying to put my observations of antisemitism into words.
