#IDedicateThisWeekTo Emma Lazarus, an American author of poetry, prose, and translations, as well as an activist. She wrote the sonnet The New Colossus in 1883. Its lines appear inscribed on a bronze plaque on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, installed in 1903.
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name

Let our first care today be the re-establishment of our physical strength,the reconstruction of our national organism,so that in future, where the respect due to us cannot be won by entreaty, it may be commanded, and where it cannot be commanded, it may be enforced.
