So, about these Religious Right spokesmen who claim to speak for Christians every election. They seem bothered by Jesus & the Bible. Here’s Jerry Falwell, Jr., speaking to the @nytimes. “I don’t look to the teachings of Jesus for what my political beliefs should be.” 
For his part, @Franklin_Graham & the @BGEA decided to anoint Brett Kavanaugh as an evangelist in the line of his father. But, again, no Bible—he’s just defending his own good name w/ all the passion of a revivalist preacher.
There is, of course, a long tradition of #SlaveholderReligion misreading Scripture to prop up injustice. But it’s striking that these guys who ask people to vote “biblical values” are so troubled by the Bible—especially the words of Jesus.
“I was a stranger & you welcomed me,” (Mt 25) doesn’t square well w/ “beautiful razor wire.”
It’s hard to preach “turn the other cheek” when your guy is celebrated for always hitting back harder.
“Whoever would be first among you must be the servant of all” is bothersome when you’re excited about America First.
