I’ve been thinking about the men who burned the Grenfell effigy. It’s troubling that the politicians responsible for the conditions which produced the tragedy, & the gross mistreatment of survivors, are jumping on a condemnation bandwagon without facing accountability themselves.
The men who burnt the effigy are racists, their behaviour is nauseating, and I’m glad their faces are plastered all over the internet. I hope they lose their jobs and their friends.

I’m not sure, however, if pursuing punishment through the criminal justice system is appropriate.
Not because I’ve any sympathy for them. But because it could potentially set a dangerous precedent for legitimate political speech, protests and stunts to be prosecuted in the same manner.
I don’t care about 6 racist slapheads getting done under the Public Order Act.

I care about the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the Kensington and the Chelsea Tenant Management Organisation getting done for corporate manslaughter.
