If true, this is an unprecedented and historic humiliation for Theresa May. After two years of negotiations with the EU, she is not even prepared to let MPs vote on her deal.
The truth is that it's unlikely any form of Brexit could command a majority in this House. It is impossible to deliver on the 2016 referendum result because it was based on lies, false promises, and fantasy. No more negotiations in Brussels will change this fact.
Our politics is now well and truly stuck. The way to unblock it is to go back to the public with a People's Vote, which will either offer a mandate for a specific form of Brexit, or to remain in the EU.

This report confirms the grim truth we already knew. The Home Office failed to protect Windrush citizens' "rights to live, work and access services" and "discharged its duty of care." It is a national disgrace.

The Home Office ignored warnings and recommendations for years. Rather than admitting its wrongs, it subjected British citizens to the brutal Hostile Environment. We still don't know how deep this goes. So far just 18 have had apologies.
Even after the scandal broke, the Home Office has shown a "surprising lack of urgency to identify other groups that may have been affected." The department is more interested in covering its own back than uncovering the truth.

The Brexiteers say we lost control because of the EU. But in reality they are still mourning Suez, Britain’s last fling of the Colonial dice.

Today we need to build a new image of Britain. One that brings this country together after years of division. Empire 2.0 is not it.
Our country’s story of renewal through Europe is a story of immigration.

Over their lifetimes, EU citizens pay in £78,000 more than they take out. But their contribution has not only been financial: our culture, our art, our music, and our food have been permanently improved.

Hope. I had hoped, @guyverhofstadt, that the EU meant something. That the people at its heart - those #The5Million of us who live the EU by exercising FoM - meant something. But today the EU (& UK) showed us that that we don't. #citizensrights are not protected and it is 1/

Lots of very welcome attention on what Theresa May herself entitled the “hostile environment”. One of main planks is “right to rent”, where landlords have to check immigration papers of tenants. Does this cause discrimination against black and ethnic minority tenants? Thread 1/?
Right to rent was brought in by Immigration Act 2014 and piloted in West Midlands before national roll out. Home Office itself commissioned research in 2015 into whether it might cause discrimination, available here gov.uk/government/pub…

1 - Thread on the Home Office destroying the #Windrush landing cards. Here's how the system should work. Under the Public Records Act, govmt departments must transfer archive records to @UkNatArchives within 30 (now 20) years.
2 - if departments want to keep records for longer than this, as the Home Office did for these papers (until 2010), they must submit a 'retention application form', setting out the reasons why the records need to be retained in the department and not sent to @UkNatArchives.
3 - That retention application is considered by an independent body of historians, archivists and so on (on which for seven years I used to sit). Therefore, there should at some point have been a retention application made for the Windrush disembarkation papers.

1/3 Tory MP Jacob Rees Mogg says he "completely supports" @DavidLammy's letter on ending the 'crisis' facing the Windrush generation. He tells LBC: “It’s absolutely dreadful. These people are as British as you and I are."
