Unexpected: Taught a Winchester, VA high school *Latin class* yesterday about mass incarceration. Tied Roman concept of “infamia”-loss of legal/social standing—to today’s exclusion of people w/ records. Part of @danibostick’s efforts to make Latin relevant:medium.com/in-medias-res/…
Learned from Dani that the KKK recruits in town & that they have a monument to "every confederate soldier" on their walking mall. She told me: “It is important they have a bigger world & hear different messages.” Honored to have been able to offer that. Feedback was awesome:
All Freshmen:

"I don't like this. SO many people wrongly incarcerated! Why??!"

"It is crazy how many people are sitting in jail waiting for trial. His job is really important."

“He gave us a lot to think about”

"I like the way Scott talked to us like adults." (Liked this one)
This comment from a Junior directly harmed by system is ✊🏻:

"Although my opinion on people who work for the criminal justice system is biased, I still believe there are truly people who want to help those who are doing the best they can & making a difference, for example Scott."
Thanks again @danibostick & let’s do more together. For you all, check out Dani’s recent powerful #TEDx talk on childhood trauma.
