NY TV debut 11/26/48 from 8 to 9:30 pm on WPIX. Action, not romance, got played up in poster for 1947 reissue of 1934 biopic on double bills with Korda's THE PRIVATE LIFE OF HENRY VIII. Direction credited to Berger's husband, Paul Czinner, though uncredited Korda did retakes.
11/26/48 from 8:30 to 9:45 pm on WCBS' "Film Theatre of the Air.'' 1943 PRC potboiler debuted 10/2/48 on WATV/13, whose Newark-based signal had nowhere near the reach of Channel 2's.
11/26/48 from 8:30 to 9:30 pm on WATV. Meanwhile, Channel 13 was repeating an RKO-released 1932 drama (spiced with murder and suicide) from Jefferson Pictures Corp. that debuted 1/28/48 on WCBS via M & A Alexander.
11/26/53 at 11:30 pm on WCBS "The Late Show.'' Republic's variation on THEODORA GOES WILD gets Thanksgiving night berth on Channel 2 thanks to title. But was 1947 comedy (not to be confused with the same year's THE SHOCKING MISS PILGRIM) a turkey?
11/26/58 from 5 to 6:30 pm on WRCA's "Movie 4.'' Harry Ritz joked that he and his brothers went from "bad to Wurtzel'' (Sol ran Fox's B unit) after lavish and funny 1939 musical vehicle failed to live up to Zanuck's expectations. NY TV debut 5/17/58 on WRCA.
NY TV debut 11/26/63 on WOR's "Million Dollar Movie.'' Premiere of Ford's 1952 remake of RED DUST was delayed for one day, to Tuesday. Channel 9, like all the other stations, preempted entertainment programs the day before because of JFK's funeral. "CBS Late Movie'' debut, 1978.
11/26/63: Channel 2 announced it would skip violent films for a few days after 11/25 JFK funeral, replacing WINGED VICTORY with THE LONG GRAY LINE on next night's "Late Show.'' Compare late-night schedule from pre-printed Sunday NY Times section to revised lineup in Tuesday paper
11/26/68 at 8 am on WABC's "Movie in the Morning.'' Nielsen plays reporter in David Friedkin's above-average 1957 Metro noir. Originally played on the bottom of double bills in support of THE WINGS OF EAGLES, syndicated to local stations by MGM.
US TV debut 11/26/73 at 9 pm on NBC. Late arrival for Elvis' excellent first vehicle, seemingly absent from American TV since 2000 run on AMC. Region 1 DVD out of print for many years. Apparently NBC bought or took long-term lease on 1957 film from producer Hal B. Wallis.
11/26/73 at 11:30 pm on "The CBS Late Movie.'' Before it was given over to all-crime format, showcase offered a much more varied menu, including Reiner's charming 1967 comedy based on his autobiographical novel which premiered here on 4/2/73.
11/26/78 at 11:45 pm on WNBC. Elmore Leonard adapted his own novel for Quine's 1970 film, one of a great many flops to come out of MGM in this era. IMDB claims this ran on NBC in 1979 but I doubt it. Nor on "The CBS Late Movie.''
11/26/83 at 2 am on WPIX. No length or end time listed for Olivier's 154-minute 1948 Oscar winner, which made US TV debut in two 90-minute installments on ABC's "Famous Film Festival'' on 12/1 and 12/8/56.
11/26/88 at 3:45 am on TNT. By some accounts the most successful of DeMille's three films as a semi-autonomous producer at MGM, 1931 remake of a stage warhorse he had previously co-directed in 1914 (for Lasky) and solo-directed in 1918 (Paramount).
11/26/93 at 11 pm on AMC. Stunning Art Deco sets, Busby Berkeley numbers, Charlotte Greenwood, Charles Middleton and George Raft are among the delights in Sutherland's 1931 Eddie Cantor musical for Samuel Goldwyn. DVD: @WarnerArchive
